SUMMARY:

Prince Faggot, written by Jordan Tannahill and directed by Shayok Misha Chowdhury, is a provocative “thought experiment” performed by an ensemble of queer, trans, and nonbinary actors that reimagines a royal coming-of-age story. It follows college-aged George as he introduces his boyfriend Dev to his parents, tracing the strain placed on their relationship by monarchy, tradition, and entrenched power, while explicitly exploring sexuality and domination as metaphors for political and social control. Interwoven monologues in which performers step out of character to share personal stories about queerness, race, and identity ground the fictional narrative in lived experience, contrasting inherited power with the “royalty” of chosen community. The play ultimately questions whether oppressive power structures can ever truly include marginalized people, a challenge that helped make it a critically acclaimed, sold-out Off-Broadway success.
